Whittington - Tyre Glenn

The funeral of Tyre Whittington was held Friday afternoon at his home near Dowden's school house, ten miles southwest of this city, and was largely attended. He was one of the prominent farmers of that part of the county and had been for years. The interment was made in a cemetery at New market. He was born in Kentucky in 1821 and came to Indiana in 1850 and has been a resident of the same locality ever since. If he had lived one more month he would have been ninety-one years of age. The death of his son, William H. Whittington, who passed away a short time ago at his home near Brown's Valley, worried him greatly, and his decline since that time has been steady. He died on Wednesday. The end was peaceful. He leaves a family of five children, of the eight who were born to him. They are Lucy E. and James L., who live at home; John T. of Peru, Rece D. of Oklahoma and George W. of Indianapolis. Three brothers, William of Crawfordsville, Joshua, of Cayuga, and S. P. Whittington of Connersville, also survive. William H., Sarah S., and Sherman D., the three other children, and his wife are dead. W. T. Whittington of this city is a nephew. The deceased was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity and was one of the really good men of the community of which he was a prominent figure for so many years. Peace to his ashes.

Mr. Tyre Glenn Whittington died Sept. 6, 1911, at the old home place in Montgomery county, Indiana, after an illness of one week, hardening of the blood vessels with other complications being the cause of his death. He was born in Woodford county, Kentucky, Oct. 6, 1820, and lived to the ripe old age of 90 years and 11 months. He was married to Julia Ann Beatty, Dec. 14, 1842, who preceded him to the great beyond 10 years ago. To them were born eight children, three of whom have gone to the final resting place with the mother. Deceased are William H., Sarah F. and Sherman G., all of whom reached the age of maturity. Five are left to mourn the loss of the father, James G., at home, John T. of Cayuga, Reese D. of Oklahoma, George W. of Indianapolis and Lucy E. at home. Besides numerous other friends and relatives he leaves twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, also three brothers, William of Crawfordsville, Thomas of Connersville and Joshua L. of Cayuga. The deceased was among the lucky who lived to see the fifth generation. They moved to this state March, 1850, and lived at the one place after coming to this state during his life with the exception of one month, which was spent on the farm now owned by W. R. Canine. Deceased was one of the oldest pioneers of Montgomery county and was a kind father, always had a pleasant word for his children, grandchildren and friends, all of whom will greatly miss him, and the gatherings at his home. He united with the Freedom Baptist Church years ago. - thanks, thanks, thanks, Sue P for these two :)
